Last Stadium & Last Game

The sat-nav directed us right to the parking garage beneath the Rogers Centre & CN Tower…where parking is only $9, except for events where it is $20. The dome was open since it was a beautiful night for a baseball game. Dodger’s batting practice provided one last chance for Karl to snag a foul ball and for me to snap some pictures of the stadium. The concourse was remarkably modern and clean. Unlike many of the newer stadiums, the concourse is open all the way around, providing great views of the field from all angles. Our first soda and fries of the trip, came as part of our hot dog meal-deal…excellent grub! Bringing the total tubular meat product count to 13. The national anthems of Canada and the US kicked off the game. It was clear we were outsiders when the National Anthem ended without the customary cheering and hat waving. However, the end of the “Oh Canada” was met with wild applause.

Our seats were in the front row of left-center. Prime homerun territory. In fact there were 2 hit within 3 sections of ours as the Blue Jays crushed the Dodger’s 12-1. Frank Thomas hit his 497th career home run just to our right…a grand slam! Karl and I made it onto the BIG screen in the grand slam replays…our only “stadium screen” appearance of the trip. Also of note, Roy Halladay threw his 1000th strike-out and walked away with the victory. We were hoping to see a complete game shutout; however an Andre Either HR in the 7th robbed us of that thrill, not to mention the fantasy points. With a pitch count of over 90, Halladay was pulled after the 8th inning.

A last high-five was had as the players walked off the field… all in all, an excellent end to the 2007 Baseball road trip…well, end to the BASEBALL portion of the trip. There were still memories to be made before we arrive back at home tomorrow…
