After a 40 minute rain delay, the game got underway. It rained most of the game, but they got in all 9 innings.<br /><br />It was great to visit Fenway, see the Sox and watch a good game...but it was tempered by the fact that my cousin was riding out Hurricane Ike in her bathroom in Sugarland TX. My grandfather is still in the hospital too...staying in touch via text and cell helped a bit.<br /><br />We are up and heading to NYC for an unexpected Mets double header. When I got our tickets for the trip, I passed on the "owner info" to him and he bought tickets for this past Saturday's game vs. the A's. Here is a shot from our seats...they were taken with an iPhone...and he said they don't do the seats justice. It actually looks and feels like you are much closer than this. He said the atmosphere was electric. <br /><br />The crowd went nuts when Jason Bay came on the field, came to the plate, or showed his face. They really went bonkers when he hit a HR. I chose the NL team since the poor saps have lost 11 straight years in a row. This could have been their year. But as the innings ticket by, and more and more men were left on base, and FOX ran out of commercials and switched in some PSAs, and as the clock crept past midnight, then past 1am...I found myself rooting for someone to just end the game...so I could finally go to bed...So the AL won 12 in row and finally won an extra innings ASG, thier first. Miller Park is a surprising close second thanks to the cool stadium and awesome fans. We would make a special trip to either one of these stadiums in a heartbeat! Jacob’s field offered excellent pro shop, quality food &amp; beverage as well as a cool facility, both inside and out. The Rodger’s Centre offered similar value for having multiple restaurant opportunities and a hotel overlooking the field. The retractable roof, CN Tower and surrounding amenities make Toronto a cool place to experience a game. PNC Park would be a quality place to see a game if the fans had a team to be excited about. It’s hard for them to be competitive when the team spends less on their entire team than the Yankees spent on Roger Clemens. PNC is still a great place to see a game and thanks to how close it is to Harrisburg, we’ll be back. Just like the White Sox 2007 season, US Cellular Field was a disappointment. We called in reservations at the Passport Inn, to insure we had a place to lay our heads after the game. The coupon touted walking to the falls and free WiFi. We arrived and as we approached the office to check in the phone by the door rang. The owner lives in one of the units, saw us coming on a camera and called us to let her know she was her way. We checked in just after the lights were turned out for the night at the falls…but we still ventured around town to see what the hype was all about. By the way, we were about 2 miles from the falls…there was no way we were walking! The place was a ghost town, until we got the Clifton Hill – the “Time Square” of Niagara Falls Ontario. We found a spot to watch ESPN to catch highlights of the game. The down side being in Canada they have ESPN Canada. Woman’s boxing was on the big screen, rather than baseball highlights. The WiFi connection dropped as I attempted to post our Wisconsin blogs…so they won’t get up until later today…sorry folks.<br /><br />Niagara recap – Ontario side is far superior to the New York side. There is no shortage of vacancies in the local motels – almost all of which are far superior to the Passport Inn. There is something to do for everyone. Bring your wallet, there is little to do without spending some Canadian currency. The dome was open since it was a beautiful night for a baseball game. Dodger’s batting practice provided one last chance for Karl to snag a foul ball and for me to snap some pictures of the stadium. Unlike many of the newer stadiums, the concourse is open all the way around, providing great views of the field from all angles. Our first soda and fries of the trip, came as part of our hot dog meal-deal…excellent grub! Bringing the total tubular meat product count to 13. The national anthems of Canada and the US kicked off the game. It was clear we were outsiders when the National Anthem ended without the customary cheering and hat waving. Prime homerun territory. In fact there were 2 hit within 3 sections of ours as the Blue Jays crushed the Dodger’s 12-1. Frank Thomas hit his 497th career home run just to our right…a grand slam! Karl and I made it onto the BIG screen in the grand slam replays…our only “stadium screen” appearance of the trip. Also of note, Roy Halladay threw his 1000th strike-out and walked away with the victory. We were hoping to see a complete game shutout; however an Andre Either HR in the 7th robbed us of that thrill, not to mention the fantasy points. We stopped driving last night at 4 am in Kalamazoo, Michigan. We then got up and made it to Rodgers Centre (Skydome) around 5 PM. <p>We are sitting in the front row in center field and hoping for a homerun ball and some TV time. We made pretty good time until we got south of Chicago…there were 2 construction zones that slowed us down…the 2nd one took an hour to go about 2 miles. We cruised on till about 2am when we stopped for a Denny’s breakfast and gas…no pun intended. Karl took over while I took a snooze. We decided to stop at a Motel 6 in Kalamazoo MI around 4:30am…sorry no pics of that one…we crashed hard, no time for that. We got up around 10am and hit the road to finish the longest leg of our trip. Right now, we are in traffic just outside Toronto that reminds Karl of the M1 in the UK…4 lanes of bumper to bumper, stop and go traffic. The smoke from grilling brats in the parking lot wafted into the air, as the sun set. The aroma was fantastic! It was obvious before we even got out of the car that these fans know how to tailgate! The atmosphere inside and out quickly bumped Miller Park up to #2 on our favorite stadium list. Milwaukee had all the modern amenities of Cleveland & Pittsburgh, PLUS excellent fans &amp; atmosphere that rivaled Wrigley Field. Food &amp; beverage was top notch, great souvenir shops AND a great game! The only gripe we had was the poor design of egress form the parking lot. It took about an hour to get on the road after the game. Izzy had a great idea of going a bit further and going to Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. So we headed north through the Wisconsin countryside to the most fabled stadium in professional football. Our plan was to go there, take a few photos, grab a bratwurst and then head back to Milwaukee for the game. We got to the field and were in awe of stadium and its surroundings. We did not get to see the actual field since we did not have time for an official stadium tour. But it was cool none the less. They had some interactive games, an awesome pro shop, and really nice facilities. We even got to see Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (he’s a defensive end for the Packers) in the pro shop, He was hosting a men’s prayer breakfast – Izzy and I didn’t have the heart to bother him while he was busy. So we spent the extra time trying to convince the security guard to let us into the stadium for a photo, but to no avail. We walked another 39 miles, took a free trolley ride or 2, and took a quick scouting trip on the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">CTA</span></span> of US Cellular field...4 hours before the game. The stadium might as well be in Yuma AZ...nothing around except parking lots. By far the biggest <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">disappointment</span> as far as stadiums go on the trip. We headed back into the city for some lunch...at 4pm...really, the first time I was actually hungry on the trip.<br /><br />Once inside, it's not a bad place to watch a game. The atmosphere reminded me of an indoor soccer game or a college football game - lots of Jock Jam cuts, cheering, yelling and they even have a<a href="http://www.thebaseballzealot.com/archives/white_sox_fight_song.php"> "fight song".</a> The fans reminded me of hockey fans...and that's a good thing as far as atmosphere is concerned.<br /><br />It was never so painfully obvious that <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">MLB</span></span> is about the money, than at this park. The food was more expensive than Wrigley. They don't have AC in any of the rooms (restrooms, shops etc) on the 500 level. Never felt that much like a second class citizen before... Rant continues...They charge for a pencil to keep score. At the time of the poll, we had consumed 5 hot dogs with Karl having one at each ballpark (bad decision by Izzy to get the shrimp basket at <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">PNC</span> Park). After last nights game we are now up to 7 dogs - Karl still holds a one dog lead. Izzy is now arguing what exactly is a hot dog (i.e. do corn dogs qualify? or does a smoked sausage count?). For purposes of this "race" we are defining "hot dogs" as any tubular meat product...<br /><br />New poll...we have received some "criticism" about the comment about Wrigley having "more history than any other ballpark". Some critics claim Fenway in Boston or Yankee Stadium have more history. So, we want your opinion...vote now!<br /><br />Editor's correction - Izzy wrote that Wrigley was the oldest stadium - it is the oldest stadium in the National League. Fenway Park in Boston is the oldest stadium in Major League Baseball. The stadium recently has been re-done and well you can judge from the photos yourself. Highlight was Jim Thome hitting a 3-run homer through 20 mile an hour winds and two impressive diving catches by Jermaine Dye. Interesting fact - Jim Thome is the all time home run leader in interleague games and we we saw the latest one. We also saw our first three errors of the trip all within 15 minutes of one another. Our seats are at the very top of the stadium.
